I wrote the biggest song of 2018. I sang, wrote, composed Koi Nahi and Soneya. I sing in Hindi, English and Punjabi. Before all this. I was a finalist on an English singing reality show. Then I acted in a TV daily soap. Right after that I was acting, singing, dancing live on stage every day of the week in a Bollywood Broadway Musical (theatre).
With me so far? The self promotion continues..
I have a degree in MBA, where I was awarded the Best All Round Manager award and then I went on to work with companies like Audi, Google, Youtube.
I love riding bikes, bouldering (like rock climbing but without harnesses), boxing, mixed martial arts. I play the guitar, cajon, djembe, piano. I teach music. I produce music.
I swear I'm getting to the point real soon..
I am working on multiple book ideas, a few scripts and maintaining this blog.
I played cricket for Delhi state, I was on the swim, basketball, volleyball team in school, captain of the school table tennis team.
Can you see the problem in all this?
The reason I'm good at so many things is also the reason I'm not great at any one thing. I'm no Joe Satriani, Carlos Santana. I'm no Sonu Nigam.
The 10,000 hour rule. To master one thing, you have to dedicate 10,000 hours to that activity. In today's time, you can do away with half. But those 5000 hours, you need to do consistently, deliberately at it, chipping away at your weaknesses daily.
But because I'm self taught in most of these disciplines, activities, passions - I have to spend a lot of time in researching and learning about all these things - which is usually fun but quite laborious and maybe not as efficient as hiring a teacher/coach.
But the biggest drawback, my biggest struggle is attention. I'm developing a short term attention deficit. Because I love to do so many things and I am almost living a double or triple life, I have really struggle hard to meet deadlines. I am working on this blog right now, but I know I have to create songs, take care of social media.
I lose out on networking the most.
Also, maybe if I was built different and I could laser focus in on one thing, who knows, I could've been the next A.R. Rahman (Jack Reacher, Jack Sparrow). But I'm not.
But I'm far from being the only person who dons multiple hats - Justin Timberlake, Usher, Frank Sinatra, John Mayer.
If you're interested in how I do all that I do (it's not rocket science), I'll tell you how I manage all this.
Out of them all, you forgot to mention that you do the most difficult task of telling the truth and always keeping it transparent like its a cake walk for you! More power to you. Great things are coming. Rather, “Best is yet to come”
