I had the weirdest dream yesterday. I was playing basketball with Diljit Dosanjh in some school in Delhi in the winters - kids running to their class rooms, and the both of us just quietly shooting hoops and BOTH of us missing terribly.
The cynical you might go "What are you even thinking about?" Does he even play ball?
Honestly, I don't know. But imagine if you were a 10 year old kid, you would easily think that yes, someday, that might be possible.
And I have chilled with Diljit on a songwriting session in Mumbai so maybe there is a connection somewhere and I'm not really starstruck ever but I like the artist and I like his humour, his vibe.
Over to Doctor Rupinn
As we grow older, we tend to get rational. We meet all kinds of people, listen, observe , get exposed to all kinds of information (thanks to the internet).
People making it big, all kinds of success stories and YES, it should really help you dream BIG and reach HIGHER. Use everything as fuel to help you achieve your dreams.
A lot of overnight success is a combination of talent, grit, hard work and LUCK!
Luck exists guys!
When you have that really vivid dream, you gotta fight the rational brain and wake up feeling 'everything is possible'
Don't ever doubt it for how unreasonable it sounds.
You CANNOT listen to reason when you're dreaming.
You might have been burnt a million times.
You might have heard stories but that's either
a) all in the past
b) happened to someone else and may not necessarily happen to you.
Whatever you have achieved, you have first conceived in your dreams.
You wanted to buy a car? You did it!
But you dreamt about it first.
You dreamed about recording your song in the studio and having it played on the radio.
You did it! Congratulations!!
This might sound Rhonda Byrne-y but you gotta believe to achieve.
And there are enough doubters, enough haters, enough people who are best friends to your face but bitchy behind your back.
Who is that one person you can trust wholeheartedly? YOU! ONLY YOU!
You gotta have faith, faith, faith (George Michael said it three times and look at the career he had. Imagine if he'd done it 4 or 5 times?)
As a kid, almost on a weekly basis, on my way to a regular kirana/grocery stores for supplies, I would see a red Octavia that barely fit in the tiniest house near where I used to live as a kid and silently dreamed of owning a Skoda Octavia one day. I did, and ask people at Google, I used to drive in it to office.
I loved that car
What is weird is that I made that connection between the Red Octavia and my Blue Octavia maybe 2-3 years after driving it.
But most definitely, subconsciously, it played a huge role when I was in the market looking for a new car because I overstretched my budget going from a compact hatchback, the Hyundai i20 to a proper German sedan i.e. best decision ever.
I come from a 'very' average middle class background with typical middle class values - the whole "go to school, college, get a degree, get a job, get a life, get a wife, get kids, raise them, die" route, my life, my destiny was already set in stone.
But I never would've come to Bombay if I hadn't dreamt about being a musician. Yes, there was a lot of planning.
But you're constantly playing chess with life. The aim is to win no matter what is thrown at you.
I wanted to be an English pop star. Instead did ads, television, movies, theatre, wrote songs, sang my own songs and I'm writing a blog right now.
Everything that I've done was conceived by day/night dreaming.
And I daydream A LOT!
What about the things I haven't achieved?
I have a lot of dreams. A lot of scattered energies all over the place - act, sing, dance, perform, write, make YouTube videos, do MMA, yoga, travel, ride bikes and so many more. It's a lot of frequencies for a relatively small antenna (Compared to the vastness of the universe and all the individual/collective frequencies).
But I have at least given everything a shot. There will be no 'what if's regrets in my life except those limited by time, PPMs, not being at two different places at the same time. I am optimising every single day of my life, doing things I am passionate about, doing things I love. And that's enough.
I've cracked the code for you. From this day forth, You and I will believe and we will together achieve.
I am really enjoying this phase of sharing my journey and growing with you. I want to know about you, your growth, your struggles, your stories.
